The Xuedou Temple complex on Xuedou Mountain above Xikou is one of eastern China's most significant Buddhist sites, with a history dating to the Jin Dynasty (4th century AD). The complex underwent substantial expansion in the early 21st century with the construction of a 33-metre copper seated Maitreya Buddha — one of the largest in China — which now dominates the mountain approach and can be seen from the town below.
The temple itself preserves older elements including incense halls and meditation courtyards. A cable car runs from a station near Xikou town to the mountain area, making the ascent accessible; the walk down through the forest trails takes 45–60 minutes. The waterfalls of Qianzhangyan (186m drop) and Xufuyan (242m) are accessible from the mountain paths and are among the most impressive in Zhejiang.
