Chatham Saw Mill, on a small island connected by bridge, is one of Port Blair's more unusual stops. The mill dates from the British period and still explains the timber economy that shaped the Andamans for much of the 19th and 20th centuries. It is part industrial site, part local-history museum.
The machinery and timber yards will not interest everyone, but travellers curious about how the islands were administered and exploited will find it worthwhile. It is best combined with other Port Blair sights rather than treated as a main event.
