Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Island

This small island in Port Blair harbour was the British administrative centre of the Andamans when it was known as Ross Island. The old church, officers' quarters, bakery, and club buildings are now roofless ruins, with banyan roots and tropical greenery pushing through the masonry.

It is an easy boat trip from Port Blair and a good counterpoint to the Cellular Jail: the rulers' town across the water from the prisoners' cells. Go in the morning if you can, before the heat builds.
