A Roman Catholic shrine on Gunadala Hill, dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes and one of the largest Christian pilgrimage sites in south India. The annual February festival draws hundreds of thousands of pilgrims from across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, and the hill is dotted with stations of the cross leading up to the church.
For non-pilgrims the interest lies in the view — Vijayawada spread out below, the Krishna in the distance, and the unexpectedness of a major Catholic site in the middle of a Hindu city. Climb up early morning before the heat sets in.
