The most important temple in Vijayawada stands on Indrakeeladri Hill, a rocky outcrop at the edge of the city overlooking the Krishna River. The goddess Kanaka Durga is Vijayawada's presiding deity, and the temple draws enormous crowds — particularly during the ten-day Dasara festival in October when lakhs of pilgrims climb the hill. The river views from the hilltop are the best in the city.
