Bhagalpur has a small airport with limited connections — check current schedules as services change frequently. The most reliable connection to Bhagalpur is by train: it sits on the Howrah-Delhi main line via Patna and has good rail links with both Kolkata (about 6 hours) and Patna (3-4 hours). The Vikramshila Express, named after the local Buddhist university, is among the faster trains on this route.
From Patna, the state capital, the road journey takes around 4-5 hours. Buses run regularly from Patna's Gandhi Maidan bus station. Within Bihar, shared jeeps and buses connect Bhagalpur to the district towns. Auto-rickshaws and cycle-rickshaws cover most of the city.
