Mandar Parvat

Sacred granite hill near Bounsi, tied to Hindu and Jain traditions and reached as a day trip from Bhagalpur.

Mandar Parvat is a solitary granite hill south of Bhagalpur, important both as a pilgrimage site and as a surprisingly scenic break from the plains. Hindu tradition links the hill with the churning of the ocean myth, while Jain temples and shrines add another layer of worship on and around the rock.

The climb is not huge, but it is exposed, so morning is kinder than the middle of the day. Travelers come for the temples, the mythological associations, and the wide views across Banka district. It is more meaningful with a local driver or guide who can explain which shrines belong to which tradition.
