Jamali Kamali Mosque and Tomb

16th-century Sufi mosque and twin-tomb complex hidden inside Mehrauli Archaeological Park

The Jamali Kamali Mosque and Tomb is a 16th-century Sufi complex in Mehrauli Archaeological Park containing the tombs of the Sufi poet-saint Jamali (Sheikh Fazlullah) and his companion Kamali. Built between 1528 and 1536, the mosque is a masterpiece of late Lodi and early Mughal transitional architecture, combining intricate red sandstone carving with delicate blue and white tilework. The tomb chamber's interior is vivid with painted plasterwork, coloured tiles and calligraphy panels.

The complex is rarely crowded and deserves more attention than it gets. Women are not permitted inside the tomb chamber itself. The mosque remains in active use. It is set within the Mehrauli Archaeological Park alongside the Qutb Minar complex — a combined visit to both sites makes for a rewarding half-day.
