Roshan Di Kulfi

Old Delhi kulfi institution near Ajmal Khan Road, operating since the 1940s

Roshan Di Kulfi near Ajmal Khan Road has been serving Delhi's most beloved kulfi since 1946, making it one of the oldest surviving food establishments in the city. Kulfi — a dense, slow-frozen Indian ice cream made from reduced milk — is sold here in its traditional form: malai (cream), kesar-pista (saffron-pistachio), and rose flavours served on a stick or in clay cups. The recipe has not changed since the shop opened.

The queue outside on summer evenings can be long, but it moves quickly. Prices are extremely modest. A meal in any of Karol Bagh's restaurants followed by kulfi from Roshan's is a classic local evening out. The shop is a useful landmark for orienting oneself in the otherwise confusing lanes around Ajmal Khan Road.
