Bangla Sahib Gurudwara

Delhi's most prominent Sikh gurdwara, a gleaming white landmark near Connaught Place

Gurdwara Bangla Sahib is Delhi's most prominent Sikh temple, a gleaming white structure topped with a golden dome near Connaught Place. The site is associated with the eighth Sikh Guru, Guru Har Krishan (1656–1664), who treated smallpox victims here during an epidemic and whose touch is said to have healed many. The temple's sacred pool (sarovar) is believed to have medicinal properties. The complex is open round the clock.

The Gurdwara exemplifies Sikh principles of service and community: a langar hall serves free vegetarian meals to several thousand people daily regardless of religion or background. The atmosphere is welcoming to visitors of all faiths. Shoes must be removed and heads covered at the entrance; free head coverings are available. The evening prayers (rehras) are particularly beautiful to hear.
