The National Crafts Museum (officially the Crafts Museum) in Pragati Maidan is the finest museum of Indian craft traditions in the country, with a collection of over 35,000 objects representing the full range of India's craft heritage — terracotta sculpture, embroidery, woodwork, metalwork, stone carving, tribal artefacts, and folk art. The museum's open-air village complex recreates traditional building forms from different regions of India.
The museum hosts resident craftspeople from around India who demonstrate their techniques in the craft village — watching a weaver from Varanasi or a bronze-caster from Bastar at work adds a living dimension to the collection. The attached shop sells quality craft objects at reasonable prices. A good café overlooks the garden. Open daily except Mondays; entry fee is modest.
