Gandhidham Junction Railway Station

Gandhidham Junction is the main railway gateway to the entire Kutch district. Nearly all visitors to the Rann of Kutch, Bhuj, and the surrounding region pass through here, and the station handles a substantial volume of freight destined for the port at Kandla. The concourse is busy at all hours, with vendors selling chai, snacks, and the Sindhi-influenced street food that defines the city.

The station has good facilities by regional standards — retiring rooms if you need to overnight, and a reasonable waiting hall. Trains connect to Ahmedabad (around 7–8 hours), Mumbai (15–16 hours), and Delhi, as well as the shorter hop to Bhuj (about 1.5 hours). Booking in advance is advisable, particularly during the Rann Utsav festival season from November to February.

A story
Gandhidham Junction was built as part of the Kutch Railway project after Partition, intended to support the resettlement of Sindhi refugees and develop the new port at Kandla. The station's code, GIMB, is a relic of the original name "Gandhidham in Mahar Bhoomi" — land given to the displaced.
