Rani Talab

Rani Talab is the sacred tank at the heart of Jind's religious life. Surrounded by ghats and small Shiva shrines, it attracts pilgrims throughout the year — but especially on new moon nights (Amavasya), when ritual bathing here is considered particularly auspicious. The tank is old and the surrounding architecture modest, but the atmosphere on religious occasions is intense and authentic.

The ghats are accessible to visitors at any time of day. A walk around the perimeter takes in several small temples, including a Shiva shrine where priests conduct daily puja from early morning. The town's identity as a pilgrimage centre is most visible here; this is not a tourist attraction but a living religious space.

A story
On Amavasya — the new moon night — thousands of pilgrims converge on Rani Talab from across Haryana and beyond. The bathing ritual is believed to absolve the sins of a lifetime and ensure the welfare of deceased ancestors. On these nights the ghat is lit by oil lamps and the air thick with incense; the collective weight of belief turns an ordinary pond into something quite different.
