The valley north of Joginder Nagar — known locally as the Bhangaal — runs up into the Dhauladhar foothills and is dotted with terraced villages, deodar forest and small temples. The cultural area is divided into Chhota (small) Bhangaal and Bara (big) Bhangaal, the latter a remote pastoral pocket reached only on foot via the Thamsar Pass.
For most visitors the easy reward is a drive or a day's hike up toward Barot, with views back over Joginder Nagar and the upper reaches of the Uhl. Local guesthouses in the villages can fix you up with a guide if you want to go further into the high pastures.
