Macchial Lake is a small forest-fringed lake about 6 km south of Joginder Nagar, considered sacred and home to a temple to Lord Varuna on its bank. The water is full of mahseer fish — locally protected and fed by visitors — and a low-key fair is held here each summer.
It's an easy half-day outing from town. Combine a visit with a walk in the surrounding pine and deodar forest and lunch at one of the small dhabas along the road back.
