Gilbert Trail is the best small walk in Kasauli, starting near Sunset Point and following the ridge through pine and scrub. It is not a wilderness trail, but it gives the town the thing it does best: a slow, green hour above the plains.
Go early if you want quiet. Parts of the ridge are close to military land, so follow posted rules and turn back where access ends.
