Baba Baidyanath Dham is the reason Deoghar exists as a travel destination. The main shrine to Shiva stands inside a complex of smaller temples, with flower sellers, priests, pilgrims, and sweet shops filling the lanes around it from early morning.
For non-Hindu visitors, the interest is as much cultural as architectural. This is a working pilgrimage site, not a quiet monument, and the atmosphere changes completely during Shravan, when huge numbers of kanwariya pilgrims come to offer Ganges water at the shrine.
