The Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) is the institutional heart of Dhanbad's coal story. Founded in 1926 to train mining engineers, it still gives the city a campus landscape of older academic buildings, lawns, and technical departments.
It is not a standard tourist attraction, but it is worth a look if you want to understand why Dhanbad became more than just a coalfield town. The campus also makes one of the calmer walks in the city.
