At the northern tip of Ullal, the Netravathi and Gurpur rivers converge and spill into the Arabian Sea across a broad sandbar. Standing here, you have the Arabian Sea on one side, the river on the other, Mangalore city visible across the water, and the Western Ghats forming a blue ridgeline in the distance. It is one of the better views in the region and requires no effort to reach — a short walk or cycle from the town centre.
The bar is most dramatic at dawn and dusk. Fishing boats cross the bar throughout the day; at low tide, the exposed sand flats attract wading birds. Boat trips can be arranged from the local ghat to cross over to the Mangalore side or to explore the backwaters upriver. This is also the best vantage point for watching the fishing fleet go out at dusk.
