Konkan Railway Sea Bridge

The Konkan Railway passes close to Murudeshwar and one of its most dramatic stretches is the sea bridge near town, where the track appears to cross open water. The railway was one of India's major engineering achievements when it opened in 1998, cutting through the Western Ghats with hundreds of tunnels and bridges along the Maharashtra and Karnataka coast.

Arriving or departing from Murudeshwar by train gives you a front-row seat on this engineering spectacle. The Konkan Railway route from Goa to Mangalore is widely regarded as one of the most scenic rail journeys in India — the combination of sea, jungle, and the sudden emergence from tunnel to bridge makes for an arrival into Murudeshwar that is memorable in itself.
