Gundert Bungalow

Gundert Bungalow was the home of Hermann Gundert, the German missionary and scholar who compiled the first Malayalam dictionary. He lived here from 1839 for about two decades, and the first Malayalam newspapers, Rajyasamacharam and Paschimodayam, were printed from the press he set up on the site.

The bungalow now works as a small museum on Gundert's life, letters, and research manuscripts. It is a useful stop if you are interested in Kerala's literary history, and it pairs well with Thalassery Fort and the old town.
