Sarangkheda

Dattatreya shrine and one of India's largest horse fairs

In Shahada tehsil on the Tapi river, Sarangkheda is best known for the shrine of single-faced Dattatreya, whose idol is believed to have been brought from Mahur in Nanded district. The temple sits on rising ground with its tall shikhara visible across the village. On Margashirsha Pournima, a major fair draws over a lakh of pilgrims to the site. Sarangkheda is also known for its horse fair — one of the largest in India — held annually in November and December.
