Kolhapur is well connected by rail to Pune (4–5 hours), Mumbai (10–12 hours), and Bangalore (8–10 hours). The Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Terminus handles most intercity services. Buses run from Pune and Mumbai frequently and are often faster than the train for the Pune connection. From the Karnataka border the city is accessible by road from Belgaum (Belagavi), about 100 km south, which has better rail and air connections.
