Rankala Lake

A large urban lake in the heart of Kolhapur, formed from an ancient quarry that over centuries was transformed into a scenic reservoir. The lakeside promenade — Rankala Chowpati — is the city's main gathering place in the evenings, lively with food stalls, vendors, and families out for a walk. Rowboats and paddle boats are available for rent.

The lake is best visited in the late afternoon or evening when the light is soft and the crowds are at their most festive. On full moon nights the atmosphere is particularly pleasant. The Temblai Temple sits on an island in the lake, connected by a causeway.
