Devgad Harbour

The natural harbour that shaped Deogad is sheltered behind the long arm of the fort headland, and is one of the few all-weather ports between Ratnagiri and Goa. Fishing boats run out at first light and come in mid-morning; the auction on the quay where the catch is sorted and sold is the most interesting hour of the day to be there.

The harbour cafes along the front sell fresh fish-thali for almost nothing — pomfret, kingfish, prawns, all caught the same morning. Sit outside, watch the boats, and follow it with a glass of solkadhi (kokum and coconut milk).
