Panorama Point

The most popular viewpoint in Matheran, Panorama Point sits at the northern edge of the plateau and looks out over a wide sweep of the Sahyadri hills toward the Ulhas River valley and Mumbai on the horizon. On clear days — which means October through February — the view extends for 50 km or more.

The walk from town takes about an hour each way along a well-trodden path. The point is busiest at sunrise, when visitors come for the light over the hills, and again at sunset. It can be crowded on weekends when Mumbai day-trippers arrive in numbers; mid-week visits are considerably quieter.
