The Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) is Mumbai's most important planned commercial district, developed from the 1990s onwards on reclaimed land between Bandra and Kurla to relieve pressure on the congested Fort business district. It now houses the headquarters of major Indian banks, international corporations, the US Consulate, multiple five-star hotels, and several luxury malls — functioning as the financial and diplomatic nerve centre of modern Mumbai.
The district is the city's most ordered piece of urban planning, with wide boulevards, pavements, and landscaping that stand in stark contrast to the surrounding suburban chaos. Several excellent restaurants and cafés serve the corporate community. On weekdays, BKC fills with Mumbai's professional class; on weekends it is quiet. The Bandra East metro station connects BKC to the rest of the city.
