Bombay High Court

The Bombay High Court is one of the most architecturally impressive Victorian Gothic buildings in Asia, designed by James A. Fuller and completed in 1879. The towering red-stone building with its ornamental spires, lancet windows, and covered walkways is a major landmark of the Fort heritage district. The main hall and corridors inside are accessible during court hours, giving visitors a rare opportunity to see a working Victorian courtroom in its original condition.

The figures of Justice and Mercy carved above the entrance are iconic landmarks. The building is at its most photogenic from across the Oval Maidan, where the full Gothic facade can be appreciated alongside the Art Deco buildings opposite. The adjacent Bombay University buildings (the Library tower and Convocation Hall) form a complementary Gothic ensemble.
