Kalamb Beach

Quiet local beach north of Mumbai for a low-key escape

Kalamb is a quiet, relatively uncrowded beach about 60 km north of central Mumbai, near Nallasopara on the Western Railway line. It's not a glamorous destination — think dark sand, fishing boats, and local families rather than resort vibes — but that's the appeal. When you want a beach day without the chaos of Juhu or the long drive to Alibaug, Kalamb works.

To get here, take a Western line train toward Virar and get off at Nallasopara station. From the west exit, local buses and auto-rickshaws run to Kalamb village, a short ride away. The beach stretches for a couple of kilometres, backed by casuarina trees and dotted with small food stalls selling fresh coconut water and fried fish.

It's best visited on weekdays when the crowds thin out. Weekends and holidays bring families from the suburbs. Swimming is possible but watch the currents — there are no lifeguards here.
