The Lakhari Valley Wildlife Sanctuary lies about 5km from Aska in the foothills of the Eastern Ghats, covering around 185 square kilometres of mixed deciduous forest. The sanctuary protects leopard, sloth bear, sambar, spotted deer, and a variety of birdlife in the Ganjam hills.
The sanctuary is less visited than the larger Odisha reserves like Simlipal and Chilika, which means it can be explored with relative solitude. A forest guesthouse provides basic accommodation for overnight stays. The best time to visit is between November and March, when the weather is cooler and wildlife more visible near water sources.
