Like most major Odishan cities, Berhampur has a Jagannath temple — a smaller and quieter version of the great shrine at Puri, but built in the same Kalinga style and following the same ritual calendar. The Rath Yatra here in summer is a more manageable, less crowded version of the famous Puri chariot festival.
The temple stands near the city centre and is open to Hindu worshippers. Non-Hindu visitors are usually welcomed in the outer courtyard.
