Nalabana, meaning "island of reeds," is the central bird sanctuary within Chilika Lake. The island is about 8 km in circumference and serves as the primary gathering point for the lake's enormous migratory bird population. The nearest access point is Barkul, where Odisha Tourism operates boats and has accommodation. Access is restricted during peak nesting season.
