The island of Kalijai is a centre of religious worship, with a temple dedicated to Goddess Kalijai. According to local legend, a young bride named Kalijai drowned here when her boat sank in a storm, and the island was named in her memory. A big fair is held on the occasion of Makar Sankranti on January 14th every year. The island is accessible by boat from the OTDC launch points.
