The small wooded rise behind the bus stand — known to everyone as Hanuman Hill for the small Hanuman temple at the summit — is the easiest viewpoint in Dhenkanal. A 15-minute walk up a paved path leads through a few rest pavilions to the temple platform, from which the town spreads out below: the palace courtyard, the railway line, the tank, and the surrounding sal forests of the Kapilash hills in the distance.
The hill is busiest at sunrise and sunset when local families come to walk for exercise. Tuesday and Saturday — Hanuman's days — are the busiest at the small temple itself.
