The Koilighughar waterfall near Lakhanpur is the most scenic natural attraction in the Jharsuguda district. The waterfall drops over a rocky forested escarpment and is most impressive during and shortly after the monsoon (August–October), when the flow is at its strongest. Outside the monsoon season, the flow reduces but the setting — forested hills, sandstone outcrops — remains attractive.
The site is accessible by a roughly 30-kilometre drive from Jharsuguda towards Lakhanpur. The last stretch requires a vehicle with reasonable ground clearance. There are no facilities at the waterfall itself, so bring food and water. It is a popular local picnic spot on weekends.
