Barehipani Falls

The most dramatic natural feature in Similipal, Barehipani Falls drops 399 metres off the Meghasuni plateau into the Budhabalanga River valley below — making it one of the tallest waterfalls in India. The falls are tiered, with the main drop of around 259 metres followed by a second cascade, and the spray throws rainbows across the surrounding forest in the early morning.

Access is from the northern zone of Similipal, through the Pithabata entrance. The falls are a few kilometres' walk from the nearest forest road. The site is most impressive during and just after the monsoon (October–November), when water volume is at its peak, though the park is often closed during monsoon itself. Even in the dry season, the falls run well. Do not attempt to go during the closed season (July–November typically).

A story
Barehipani is the second-highest waterfall in India, dropping 399 metres in two tiers over the Eastern Ghats. The name means "big water" in the Santali language, and the local communities have long held the falls sacred — offerings are still made at the base during festivals.
