Joranda Falls

Joranda Falls drops 150 metres through a narrow gorge in the heart of Similipal, surrounded by dense sal and teak. It is easier to reach than Barehipani — a forest road runs close to the base — and the setting is quieter and more intimate. The pool at the bottom is emerald green, and the spray keeps the surrounding rocks cool even in the dry season.

The forest rest house at Joranda is one of the most desirable places to stay in Similipal. Bookings go through the Tiger Reserve office in Baripada and fill up quickly for the November–June open season. Early morning and evening around the rest house are productive for wildlife — elephants move through the forest here regularly.

A story
The Joranda rest house, perched above the falls, was one of the oldest forest bungalows in Similipal and served British forest officers during the colonial period. Guests staying overnight can hear the falls from bed and watch animals come to water at first light.
