Hanging Bridge at Chekaguda

Pedestrian suspension bridge over the Nagavali River

A long pedestrian suspension bridge across the Nagavali River linking Rayagada town to the villages of Chekaguda, Mariguda and beyond. It is one of only two such hanging bridges in Odisha and is a working connector for the villagers on the far bank rather than a tourist installation. The bridge sways gently as you walk across — vertigo sufferers should think twice — but the views up and down the river are excellent.

Early morning, when the river mist is still hanging over the water and women are walking out for the day's work, is the best time to come. There is no fee. Bring water and watch your footing on the wooden planks.
