Siliserh Lake and Palace

Siliserh Lake is a peaceful reservoir 13 km southwest of Alwar, surrounded by the wooded Aravalli hills and best visited at dusk when the sky reflects on the water. The lake was created as a water source for Alwar city and is now a popular picnic spot.

The Siliserh Palace, built in 1845 as a royal hunting lodge, sits at the lake's edge and has been converted into a heritage hotel run by Rajasthan Tourism. Even if you're not staying, the restaurant terrace overlooking the water is pleasant for a meal or a drink. Boating on the lake is available for visitors.

A story
The palace was built in 1845 by Maharaja Vinay Singh for his queen, Shila — a commoner he fell in love with and married, against the conventions of Rajputana court life. She agreed to the marriage only on the condition that she could see her childhood village across the lake from her window. The palace was positioned accordingly, and the village of Siliserh remains visible from the upper terrace.
