By Rail: Coimbatore Junction is the main station, on the main line between Chennai and Trivandrum via Madurai. Frequent services to Chennai (7-8 hours), Bengaluru (7 hours), Madurai (3 hours), and Trivandrum (8 hours). Coimbatore is also the railhead for the Nilgiri Mountain Railway — a UNESCO Heritage narrow-gauge line that climbs to Ooty via Mettupalayam.
