Isha Yoga Centre

The Isha Yoga Centre, founded by Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, occupies a forested campus at the foot of the Velliangiri Hills, 30 km south of Coimbatore. It is one of India's largest spiritual centres, drawing visitors and participants from across the world for yoga programmes, meditation retreats, and volunteer work. The campus includes temples, meditation halls, and residential facilities in a well-landscaped setting.

Day visitors can explore the grounds and visit the Adiyogi statue and the Dhyanalinga — a consecrated meditative space that draws thousands of visitors daily. No dress code for the grounds but modest clothing is expected; footwear must be removed in some areas. The centre is easily reached by taxi or bus from Coimbatore. Day programmes and longer courses require advance booking via the Isha website.

A story
The 34-metre Adiyogi statue on the grounds — a face of Shiva in brushed steel — was recognised by Guinness World Records in 2017 as the largest bust sculpture in the world. It was conceived as a tool for "inner wellbeing" rather than worship, and its sheer scale against the forest and hills makes it startling even for those with no interest in yoga.
