Holy Trinity Cathedral

1826 Anglican cathedral, seat of the CSI Diocese of Tirunelveli

Address Cathedral Rd, Palayamkottai, Tirunelveli 627002

Holy Trinity is one of the older Anglican churches in South India — consecrated in 1826 and now the cathedral of the Church of South India's Diocese of Tirunelveli. The building combines a tall white spire with a long galleried nave, painted bright white inside, with marble memorials to British missionaries and military officers ranged along the side walls.

The diocese, founded in 1896, was for much of the 19th century the largest mission field of the Anglican Church Missionary Society in India. Tirunelveli district produced many of the first generation of Tamil Protestant scholars, and the cathedral is still an active centre of worship — both English and Tamil services are held weekly.
