Tiruvarur has its own railway station on the Thanjavur–Nagapattinam branch line, with regular services connecting it to both towns. From Thanjavur the journey takes about an hour; from Nagapattinam about 40 minutes. Chennai connections require a change at Mayiladuthurai or Kumbakonam.
By road, Tiruvarur is 55 km east of Thanjavur on a well-maintained state highway. Buses connect Tiruvarur to Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Kumbakonam, and Mayiladuthurai throughout the day. An auto-rickshaw or taxi from the bus stand can reach any of the nearby temples.
