Mukkombu, or the Upper Anaicut, is where the Kaveri and Kollidam river system begins to divide west of Trichy. It is a popular local picnic spot, with water, trees, and a calmer atmosphere than the city.
It is not as historically weighty as Kallanai, but it helps you understand Trichy's geography. The city owes much of its identity to these branching rivers and the fertile delta they feed.
