Vayalur Murugan Temple lies west of Trichy in a greener, more rural setting than the city centre. The shrine is associated with Murugan and with the Tamil saint-poet Arunagirinathar, which gives it a strong place in local devotional life.
The temple is a good short trip if you want to step away from Trichy's traffic. The approach through fields and villages makes the visit feel different from the river-island temples.
