Anamalai Tiger Reserve is the protected forest landscape around Valparai and Pollachi, part of the Western Ghats' rich wildlife belt. Tigers are the headline species, but visitors are more likely to notice elephants, hornbills, giant squirrels, macaques, and the dense, wet forest itself.
Tourist access is controlled and differs by range and season. From Valparai, the reserve is best understood as the living frame around the hill station: a reason to drive slowly, avoid night travel, and treat every estate road as possible wildlife country.
