Ujjayanta Palace

Ujjayanta Palace is Agartala's grand landmark, a white domed palace set amid ponds and gardens. Built by the Manikya dynasty, it now contains the Tripura State Museum, whose galleries are the best introduction to the state's history and communities.

Go early in your trip. The palace gives context for Neermahal, the old capital at Udaipur, and Tripura's mix of courtly, tribal, and Bengali cultural strands.

A story
Ujjayanta was once the seat of Tripura's Manikya rulers; today it houses the Tripura State Museum. That shift from royal residence to public museum is a neat summary of the state itself: princely history, tribal cultures, Bengali influence, and modern politics under one roof.
