Dhwaj Temple

Perched on a hilltop about 10 km from Pithoragarh at an altitude of around 2,700 metres, Dhwaj temple is dedicated to the local deity Dhwaj and offers panoramic views of the Himalayan chain. The approach is by a winding road followed by a short walk, and on clear days the Panchachuli massif, Nanda Devi East, and the Nepal peaks are all visible from here. A flag (dhwaj means flag in Hindi) flies permanently from the temple.

The area around the temple is quiet and forested, with few visitors outside festival periods. In late autumn and winter, the upper slopes above the temple may have snow, and the temperature drops sharply. Bring a layer.
