Pithoragarh's small domestic airport sits on a plateau northeast of town and has an unusual distinction for travellers: it is so close to the Himalayan foothills that flights are genuinely dramatic, with snow peaks visible through the cabin windows on the descent. Sporadic flights connect to Dehradun and Pant Nagar, though schedules are unreliable and the route is often suspended; check before building your itinerary around it.
The airport is worth mentioning not because you will necessarily fly from it, but because the road up to it — past the bazaar and through the upper part of town — gives a good sense of Pithoragarh's layout and the surrounding terrain. The plateau itself has open views toward the Nepal border hills.
