Henry Island is a small island east of Bakkhali, separated from the mainland by a narrow channel and accessible by a road causeway. The island has a small beach, a mangrove forest, and a watch tower from which visitors can scan the surrounding waterways. The mangrove ecosystem here is the outermost edge of the broader Sundarbans delta, and the watch tower provides the kind of elevated view that puts the landscape in perspective — a flat expanse of water, forest, and estuary stretching south toward the Bay of Bengal.
The beach at Henry Island is quieter than Bakkhali's main beach and the mangrove walk takes about an hour. The island is popular with day-trippers from Bakkhali and with birdwatchers — herons, egrets, and various waders are present year-round. The Forest Department runs the watch tower and the mangrove walk; there is a small entry fee. Henry Island makes for a good morning excursion combined with an afternoon on the Bakkhali beach or a launch trip toward Jambudwip.
